Intellipoint and Intellitype Pro Final for Vista released

Microsoft has taken its Windows Vista versions of the Intellipoint and Intellitype Pro software for mice and keyboards respectively, out of beta and has released them online for immediate availability.

Both Intellipoint and Intellitype Pro (version 6.1) are available in 32 and 64 bit versions in various languages. Links to the download page are available here:

With the previous final release of the 32 bit Fingerprint Reader software (64 bit support is not available at this time), all that is left is software for the Microsoft LifeCam products. Microsoft anticipates releasing finalized software for the LifeCam in January 2007.

For more information, see the Microsoft Hardware Windows Vista Support page.

Update: January 03, 2007 - Updated links to Microsoft's website

Is it just me, or does the IntelliPoint Magnify feature makes the screen flicker for about 3-4 seconds? (In Windows Vista with Aero.)

Unfortunately, it is not just you. Someone else observed this in the public newsgroups.

I was glad to see they fixed this known bug "When using the latest Microsoft wireless keyboard or mouse receivers such as 27 MHz wireless technology, and not Bluetooth® wireless technology, the screen saver will not be automatically activated. This primarily applies to the Microsoft Windows Vista Premium and Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate editions.", however if I change any settings for the mouse buttons at all, the screen saver stops working again. Guess that bug isn't quite fixed.

It would be nice if Microsoft would release drivers for the older keyboards, such as the Microsoft Office Keyboard. Yes, it has been discontinued, but Microsoft never seemed to give it its due, even in t Windows XP Intellitype releases. It shouldn't be so hard to add all the keyboards into the driver package.

I've noticed a severe flickering on Windows XP Pro SP2 with my new Wireless Bluetooth Laser 8000 and IntelliPoint 6.0 and 6.1. This doesn't happen at work with Intellipoint and IntelliType installed for my Wireless Multimedia Desktop Pro set. Not sure what the software versions are there. Probably 5.x, since I haven't updated them in a while.

For me, flicker is caused by apparent incompatibility between ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 video driver and Intellipoint 6.01 and 6.1 - tried 2 different wireless mice. Both mice work fine on 2 machines with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 and NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 and either version of Intellipoint. MS has said there's an incompatibility and has offered to refund purchase price of new mouse.

My graphics card is an nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX on the laptop (where the flickering occures) and an ATI Radeon 9250 on my work machine. (No flickering, Intellipoint 6.1 on both now)
Support incident open at MS, we'll see where that gets me...

I just installed Intellipoint and although I really enjoy the features...

Now my Photoshop is flickering every few seconds. I tried restarting the computer and checking my other settings, but honestly I haven't done anything else but install Intellipoint. I'm just about to uninstall it... I hope it fixes Photoshop. I use Photoshop all day, and the flickering hurts the eyes!

Beauty. Well the good news is that uninstalling Intellipoint is painless and it fixes the screen flicker (at least for me).

Good job, Microsoft :)

szajd, the screen flicker you're seeing is due to an issue with Vista that's exposed by the magnify application unfortunately. you should see a fix for this issue, but it'll likely be another year or so, when vista sp1 is shipped.

Microsoft's download site omits the Microsoft Office keyboard (model RT9450), which is far as I'm concerned is the best keyboard they've made. It's frustrating and annoying that they appear to have orphaned this product. I don't really want to take a chance with Intellitype Pro 6.1 if it simply won't work but if the beta fixes this problem I'd like to know. Hopefully someone from Microsoft will see this and feel some SHAME and do something about it. I will not buy another Microsoft keyboard if this remains unresolved.

Intellitype Pro 6.1 does not support the Microsoft Office Keyboard. I think support for that ceased with Intellitype Pro 5.something. It won't be supported in future versions of Intellitype (it has reached end of life).

How can the product be "end of life" when it is still working quite fine??! Why should I have to dump a perfectly good, working piece of hardware just because someone decided it was "end of life", a totally arbitrary decision?!
I will never buy another piece of Microsoft hardware.

FWIW: There comes a time when other companies (i'll use Logitech as an example as they are a competitor, but you can substitute anyone else to the same effect) doesn't support older hardware with their newest driver software.

If you're looking for a company that will support every hardware they make with the newest driver software they provide, I wish you great luck in that task.

Intellipoint 6.1 is incompatible with Photoshop 6 under XP. At least for me. All images I opened in Photoshop were flickering every few seconds. I've tried three different video cards before I found your post.

Now I installed Intellipoint 5 again and everything works as expected now.

Multiple programs flickering for me too. Tried IntelliPoint 6.1 and 6.2. XP with Nvidia FX5200 card. Still can't find an MS acknowledgement of this problem.

I'm using a natural ergonomic 4000 keyboard in vista 64 bit and the only issue I have is that the extra-functions sometimes registers multiple clicks when pressed (once).
I.e. the play/pause button thinks it's being pressed two times making the music pause and then resume immediately. And skipping a song sometimes skipps multiple songs etc. Quite annoying :\

it is almost year and a half later, and intellipoint v6.2 came out, but screen still flickers in windows vista when aero is on. shame.

I'm trying to use my Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro with IntelliType 6.1 for Vista 64. The key assignments don't seem to, "take". The assignment shows in the utility window but the new button functionality does not happen. I notice that the Natural Keyboard Pro is not listed in the hardware list so I use the Internet Keyboard option since they seemed to have a virtually idntical layout. Anyone have any better luck with this keyboard?

IntelliType 6.3 is now out and fixes the flicker problem...
